About the Presenter:

Jan Stewart, founder of Forage Safaris, is a farmer’s daughter and farmer’s wife whose life has always been rooted in the land. Raised on a mixed arable farm, she developed a deep love of horses and all animals from an early age. Later, she married Dave and together they farmed near Harare, Zimbabwe, managing one of the country’s oldest Holstein herds alongside exporting roses, food crops under centre pivot, and other mixed farming ventures.

It was on this farm that Jan and Dave began pursuing their dream of an agritourism enterprise — a “pick your own vegetables” experience complete with café and farm shop. Although circumstances prevented this vision from coming to fruition, Jan’s passion for connecting people with the land never faded.

For over 35 years, Jan has worked extensively in both the safari industry and international tourism — in Africa and, for more than 15 years, in Western Australia. Based in the South West, the Covid-19 shutdown of international travel became the catalyst for launching Forage Safaris. Through her tours, Jan champions local farmers and producers, taking guests behind the farm gate, sharing their stories, and highlighting the importance of eating seasonally and supporting local agriculture.
