You’re invited to the launch of the Photonic and Quantum Technologies in Australia and New Zealand Industry Report 2026. It’s produced by the Australian and New Zealand Optical Society (ANZOS), with the support of SPIE (the International Society for Optics and Photonics), Te Whai Ao — Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, the ARC Centre of Excellence in Optical Microcombs for Breakthrough Science (COMBS), the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology (QUBIC), UniServices and the ARC Training Centre for Current & Emergent Quantum Technologies (QuTech)

Our third report since 2020 now demonstrates a clear trend - the photonic and quantum industries in Australia and New Zealand are growing, but at a lower rate than the rest of the world. New Zealand has some excellent start-ups, a new stakeholder community and significant research potential, but it’s clear, after decades of investment in Australia, “the Ditch” is becoming a digital divide.
