August Monthly Mingle

This month we are pleased to welcome Liz Lea as our guest speaker. Liz is a member of The Stellar Company. Liz will be speaking about a film they are creating that highlights and challenges the 7 reasons why we have created and must tackle climate change: burning fossil fuels, deforestation, industry, agriculture, transportation, energy consumption and waste management. The City Farm has provided support for The Stellar Company by offering the Farm as a location for the filming.

Liz describes how this project will unfold: "Over 6 months we connect with a range of recycling, transport and solar power companies alongside community groups to tackle issues of climate change through art, movement and music. The project culminates in a short film capturing the power of a united community voice in the rise towards zero emissions. We simultaneously increase and empower community engagement then share the power of the community voice with millions. The film will be a poignant fusion of movement, music, and film, elevating the voices of underrepresented community members, particularly those with disabilities.  The language of dance serves as a powerful medium to convey a universal narrative that happens locally but resonates globally. "

The Monthly Mingle is an informal get-together that aims to bring people closer to their local food system and community. They are a relaxed and social opportunity to share food, stories, and views on sustainability and our food system. And creativity!

As usual, before Liz's talk, we’ll be firing up the pizza oven and will provide pizza bases, sauce, and cheese; please bring other pizza toppings for our volunteers to prepare various options to share.
