On Sunday, April 21st, nine piece Afro-Cuban ensemble Ausecuma Beats will take over the little-used Carlton Scout Hall at Shakespeare St, Carlton North, for an afternoon of family-friendly fun.
World-class percussionist and bandleader Boubacar Gaye, with help from legendary kora player and vocalist Amadou Suso (The Senegambian Jazz Band), balafon extraordinaire and griot Bassidi Koné, and Senegal's own Magou Samb, will run two workshop sessions in the afternoon, capped at 50 attendees each. Register via the RSVP link to secure your spot - children under ten will not need to register and can attend accompanied by their parents.
Then, the band will throw open the doors of Carlton Scout Hall from 3pm for two sets of live music, launching their brand new album, Dakar Bamako. Workshop tickets will also be valid for the live performance.
The band's third studio album, this remarkable record features fourteen musicians from three cities - Melbourne, Dakar and Bamako – together in an album that celebrated the intense creative energy coursing through the streets of these magical places.
It is a true cross-cultural collaboration that celebrates stories of migration, cooperation and the unifying power of music and dance as a force to bring humanity together.
