Building Connections: Korean adoption's pasts and futures

Price FREE Register

Event description

This event is being held on the unceded lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We acknowledge and pay respect to the culture and expertise of First Nations peoples here and across the continent.

How do we make sense of our adoption histories — and what possibilities arise when we explore these together?

Join us on 4 May, in the week leading up to Single Mother's Day in South Korea, to hear about how Korea's intercountry adoption program was established, how adoptees in Australia and the US are collaborating to push for greater transparency and access, and the significance of Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission's investigation.

When: 12pm-3pm AEST, Saturday 4 May 2024
Where:
Ideas Space, Darling Square Library, 1 Little Pier Street, Haymarket NSW

The event is open to all adult intercountry adoptees, however the focus will be on Korean intercountry adoption. That said, we would warmly welcome the opportunity to hear about other adoptee experiences.

This event is free to attend, but capacity is very limited so please register your attendance. Refreshments will be provided.

Please feel free to join us afterwards at the Edinburgh Castle, 294 Pitt St, Sydney from 4pm (15 mins walk from Darling Square). Let us know if you're keen to join, so we can make the appropriate booking.

ACCESSIBILITY

The venue is wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately we won't have Auslan interpreting available. However, if you have specific accessibility needs, please get in touch by emailing auskrgroup@gmail.com and we will do our best to make sure they're considered.

GETTING THERE

There is limited parking nearby, so we would recommend using public transport. Central Station is a 10 mins walk away, and the nearest light rail stop is Paddy's Market, which is a 3 mins walk away (light rail can be accessed directly from Central Station).

ABOUT AUSKRG

The Australia – United States Korean Rights Group (AUSKRG), is a community group focused on strengthening Korean adoptee communities by sharing resources and advocating for equal human rights.
