The 2026 Australasian Society for Historical Archaeology (ASHA) Conference will be held at The Atrium, University of Queensland, Brisbane. Brisbane (Meanjin) is home to the Turrbal and Jagera peoples, whose continuing connection to land, Country and culture we acknowledge and respect. A vibrant riverside city, Brisbane offers fantastic food, culture, and easy access to the conference venue.
About this event
The 2026 ASHA conference will commence with Welcome Drinks on the evening of Thursday 20 August at Brisbane Brewing Co., 124 Boundary St, West End, from 6–8pm (free with conference registration, bookings essential). Conference sessions will be held on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August at The Atrium, University of Queensland. The conference dinner will be held on Saturday 22 August at Customs House, 399 Queen Street, Brisbane, and will include two courses and a welcome drink. The evening will also feature ASHA's annual awards presentation, which will be streamed online free for ASHA members.
Pre-conference tours at the Queensland Museum are also offered for Thursday afternoon.

Behind the Scenes: Queensland Museum Historical Archaeology Collections
Thursday 20 August 2026, 2pm or 3:30pm AEST, Queensland Museum Kurilpa, Corner of Grey and Melbourne St, South Brisbane — $50 per person
Join the Archaeology team at Queensland Museum for a curated tour of the historical archaeology collections and museum storage area at their Kurilpa (Southbank) campus. This hour-long behind-the-scenes tour takes you into the History & Technology storage area, with highlighted points of interest from among the 40,000 objects in storage. The team will also showcase finds from recent historical archaeology excavations in Brisbane, including selected artefacts from the Cross River Rail excavations.
