'Australia and the World' 2026 Annual Lecture: The Hon Jim Chalmers MP

On Monday 21 September 2026, Treasurer of Australia, The Hon Jim Chalmers MP, will deliver the 2026 'Australia and the World' Annual Lecture and launch the 2026 Intergenerational Report, at University House, ANU.

The event will be moderated by AuSI Director, Professor Mark Kenny, and will be available to stream via ANU TV.

About the Speaker

Jim Chalmers has been Treasurer of Australia since May 2022, and has now delivered five Budgets.

Prior to the election of the Albanese Labor Government he served as Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Finance.

He has been the Member for Rankin in the House of Representatives since 2013, proudly representing the people and suburbs of southern Brisbane and Logan City where he was born, grew up and made a home with Laura, Leo, Annabel, and Jack.

Before Parliament, he was the Executive Director of the Chifley Research Centre and Chief of Staff to the Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer.

He has a PhD in political science and international relations from the Australian National University, and a first class honours degree in public policy from Griffith University.

He is a qualified company director and the author of two books, Changing Jobs: the Fair Go in the New Machine Age (with Mike Quigley in 2017) and an earlier book about the Global Financial Crisis, Glory Daze (in 2013).
