Australia Piano Quartet - The Clarinet's Viola
Event description
The first Australia Piano Quartet performance for 2020 showcasing the ensemble’s new pianist Konstantin Shamray. The program features three works that were originally written for clarinet, but have been adapted for the yearning sonority of the viola. The journey starts in Beethoven’s wild and adventurous early period where the stuffy formality of classicism was being usurped. Beethoven’s lighthearted Trio Op. 11 is a virtuoso work that shows the young composer’s unique ability to synthesise the divine and ridiculous through his extraordinary command of harmony and structure. Glinka’s ‘Trio Pathetique’ marks the beginning of Russian romanticism and preempts his development of a Russian nationalist style. This remarkably accomplished early work was inspired by his European travels and unhappiness in early love. These two youthful gems will be followed by Brahms’ Trio Op.114. Brahms returned from retirement to write four masterpieces for the clarinet. This treasure of late Romanticism allows for the most profound conversation between the three instruments. Follow us on |
