Australian Finska Championship 2023
Event description
The Australian Finska Championships is back for 2023.Â
An annual festival celebrating the beautiful game of Finska returns with a new home this year at the Petersham Bowling Club in Sydney’s inner-west.
THE COMPETITION
This is your chance to be crowned the Australian Finska Champion of 2023.
Whether you consider yourself one of the best players in the country, or simply the best player in your family or group of friends, you’re welcome to sign up and join the battle for the AFC trophy. The competition is open to first-time players and pros alike, from all age groups! The only stipulation is that you have 2 people in a team.Â
128 teams of two will face off in a tournament that will consist of two competitive stages: the pool stage and the knockout stage. During the pool stage, teams will face off against every other team in your allocated pool. At the end of the pool stage, the more successful teams will proceed to the knockout stage and playoff for the Australian Championship trophy. The other teams will also get to play on and compete for ‘The Plate’ in the equally honourable B-Tournament. The day is structured so that all teams irrespective of skill level get to enjoy a full day of competitive Finska fun. Even if you have never played before, Finska is easy to learn and those new to wood-chucking are welcome to compete.
The two Finska players who become 2023 national champs could be anyone, from any corner of the country (or planet for that matter). The only certainty being they will have had to conquer their nerves and steady their hands across a long day that is as much mental as it is physical. Who knows how the skittles will fall come this fateful Sunday late October.
There is a strict capacity of 128 teams so it’s first-in best-dressed for registration!
The AFC is all about coming together and basking in the absurdity of the game. Celebrating the highs and lamenting the lows.
Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated at the competition. Petersham Bowling Club and AFSO reserves the right to disqualify and remove any player, team or spectator not adhering to this tenet.
