Australian Women's Film Festival 2024
Event description
The Australian Women's Film Festival (AWFF) is a short film festival created by women, for women.
AWFF will be held at Event Cinemas, George Street, Sydney on Tuesday 17 September 2024 from 6pm.
AWFF aims to support, encourage + celebrate female storytellers by giving them a platform to showcase their talent both in front + behind the camera.
All AWFF films must have female identifying creatives in at least 3 key roles (e.g.Writer, Director, Producer, Animator, DOP, Composer and Editor). This is designed to encourage the inclusion of women in the industry. Men are not excluded from entering AWFF, but they must be willing to work with women. All fictional films must pass the Bechdel test - a measure of the representation of women in fiction. The Bechdel test asks if the work features at least two women that talk to each about a topic other than a man and was included to encourage filmmakers to consider their portrayal of women in film in order to transcend traditional character tropes.
The AWFF program includes:
- a red carpet welcome event with cocktails provided by our sponsor The Glenlivet.
- a curated panel discussion moderated by AWFF Host Lucia Hawley) with the AWFF judging panel (Leah Purcell, Kyas Hepworth, Sophie Wilde and Bella Heathcote)
- a screening of the finalist films and award presentation
Tickets include entry to AWFF, a gift bag full of goodies including yummy FUNDAY treats, popcorn, bottled water & The Glenlivet cocktails
