Event description

The Australian Womens Film Festival (AWFF) is a short film festival created by women, for women.

AWFF will be held at Event Cinemas, George Street, Sydney on Sunday 18 September 2022 at 3pm.

AWFF aims to support, encourage + celebrate female identifying storytellers by giving them a platform to showcase their talent both in front + behind the camera.

All AWFF films must have 3/5 key female identifying creatives (e.g.Writer, Director, Producer, DOP and Editor), designed to encourage the inclusion of women in the industry. Men are not excluded from entering AWFF, but they must be willing to work with women. All fictional films must pass the Bechdel test - a measure of the representation of women in fiction. The Bechdel test asks if the work features at least two women that talk to each about a topic other than a man and was included to encourage filmmakers to consider their portrayal of women in film and transcend traditional character tropes.

The AWFF program includes:

- a red carpet welcome event with wine and spirits provided by our sponsors Orlando Wines and The Glenlivet

- a curated panel discussion moderated by Francesca Hung with the AWFF judging panel (Phoebe Tonkin, Margaret Pomeranz, Amanda Duthie & Nakkiah Lui) and Bus Stop Films filmmaker Audrey O'Connor

- a screening of the finalist films and award presentation

Tickets include entry to AWFF, a gift bag, popcorn, wine & cocktails!
