Event description

Hola!

Join me for an Authentic Mexican cooking class and cultural exchange! I will be teaching you how to make tortillas AND tostadas by hand! I am guided by the indigenous wisdom of my ancestors and am excited to share my culture with you all.

Impress your friends with your knowledge of tortilla-making and traditional Mexican customs. My mother hails from Michoacán, Mexico and my father is from Zacatecas, Mexico. I grew up making (and eating of course!) tortillas and tacos so of course I think it is such a shame that in Australia it is so hard to find authentic Mexican food, especially homemade tortillas. So, I decided to bring to Sydney an authentic Mexican cooking class and cultural exchange. If you are not familiar with homemade tortillas you will be in for a tasty treat! We will be using my mother's recipe to make ceviche de pescado (fish ceviche) and tacos de pescado al mojo de ajo (fish tacos). For vegetarians and vegans who want to join us, there will be a plant-based option as well of ceviche and tacos so don't miss out. Join us for this tasty class!

If you have not tried Mexican ceviche or pescado al mojo de ajo yet, you definitely want to sign up because they are delicious! I will be showing you how I make tortillas and giving everyone a chance to try their hand making their own on my tortilla press. I will also show you how we prepare the pescado al mojo de ajo to fill the tacos . I will be explaining the process and answering questions throughout. I will also be sharing with everyone where they can source authentic Mexican ingredients in Sydney and how they can substitute what can't be found here with other ingredients. Prepare your taste buds for an adventure around to the other side of the world because we are bringing Mexico to Sydney!

This isn't your average cooking class where you get a recipe and follow it. This isn't a recipe that is written down. Actually, none of my family recipes are written down, they are passed down orally. You will be learning from me the way I learned from my mother and she learned from my grandmother, which will include me showing you how we prepare these in my family household. Keeping in line with my vision for this class, we will be cooking in my friend's kitchen so that we can have that homey feeling we all love when we cook. I'll be sending an email to ticket-holders with the exact address on the day of the event but it will be in Mascot, which is easily accessible by train/bus.

I have been sharing my cultural foods all over Australia throughout my travels because I love teaching people about my cultura. Get your tickets now before they sell out since spaces are limited.

Please note, if you are allergic to cats, there are 2 friendly cats who live onsite.

I acknowledge and pay respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
