Author Talk: 'Beyond Timbuktu' with Catherine DeVrye

What if the world was far kinder and more connected than headlines lead us to believe?

Beyond Timbuktu: Journeys of Hope and Humanity by Catherine DeVrye is an inspiring travel book that takes the reader on an A-to-Z armchair journey through more than 150 countries. Trekking to Timbuktu, skiing in Lebanon, cycling through Lithuania, swimming off Yemen, dining with royalty in Bahrain or sharing pizza with Syrian refugees in Serbia – she discovers that most individuals are kinder than their governments; that more unites us than divides us, even in often maligned nations.

With warmth, humour and unflinching honesty, she reveals how courage, kindness and connection appear in the least expected places.

About the speaker:

Having started life in a Canadian orphanage, Catherine earned a master’s degree in the USA before arriving in Australia with $200, grieving the loss of both adoptive parents. A cancer survivor and former IBM executive, named Australian Executive Woman of the Year, she was honoured to carry the Olympic torch.
