Description

Authors are seeing their work used without consent to train large language models (LLMs), facing markets flooded with machine-generated content, and grappling with new tools that promise to help – but on whose terms?

Associate Professor Celeste Rodríguez Louro, Director of UWA's Language Lab and Australian Institute of Transformation and AI Fellow, chairs this panel discussion.

She is joined by Richard King, critic and Fremantle-based author of Here Be Monsters: Is Technology Reducing Our Humanity?, Dr Sanna Peden, educator, poet, and unionist with twenty years of experience in Australian higher education, and Claire G. Coleman, Wirlomin Noongar writer and award-winning author of Terra Nullius and Lies, Damned Lies — who also holds an honours degree in AI and worked as a computer scientist before turning to fiction.

Between them, this panel brings critical, creative, and technical perspectives to the conversation. Come ready to think, question and challenge as we ask what the future of creative writing should look like.

This session is for adults.

Please Note: Bookings open 1 August 2026.
