Description

Give your pre-loved books a new life and take home some new reads at our Autumn Book Swap. We'll be at Rose of Australia in Erskineville on Sunday 26 April, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Find us upstairs at the Terrace – there is lift access and the venue is also wheelchair accessible.

How does it work?

  1. Bring up to three books you've finished reading and that you're ready to part ways with.

  2. Place your books on the swap table and browse the other books.

  3. Keep in mind that if you come early, more books will be added for swapping as more people arrive. You can use this opportunity to chat to other readers, grab some food or drink and chill out.

  4. Take home only as many books as you brought.

Come solo or bring some friends. If you come by yourself, a lot of people who come to book swap are keen to chat to new people, especially about books. Or if you prefer to have alone time, that's cool too!

What books can I bring?

Most books that hit the swap table are novels of all types of genres, such as literary fiction, classics, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, thriller, mystery, historical, YA.

We also see a good amount of memoirs, biographies and autobiographies, as well as some non-fiction.

Please don't bring:

  • Books that are not in English

  • Text books

  • Religious texts

  • Cook books

  • Coffee table books

  • Kids books

Why is there a limit on the number of books I can bring?
If you've been to book swap before, you'll know that this limit is new. This is to help make sure that the swap remains fair and no one is taking many more books than they contribute. I'm not able to keep track of exactly how many books each person brings, especially when in the past many voracious readers have brought tote bags full of books to swap. Even with the limit, the swap still very much functions as an honour system and I ask everyone attending to please respect that so that everyone has the opportunity to take home a new title that they're interested in.

What happens if I'm not interested in any of the books available?

That's fair, reading tastes are subjective and although we get a wide variety of books at our swap, it's not guaranteed that you'll find something you're into. In this case, feel free to take home the books you brought. Or chat to me (Leeza, the host) before you leave and I'll make a note that you don't have to bring any books to the next swap.

Is this event free?

Yes, this event is free to attend however please make sure to register first if you're coming along so that I can manage numbers. Food and drink will be available to purchase at the bar.

Please be aware that photos and videos will be taken during the event for marketing purposes. Further permission will be sought for any content where you would be identifiable. Any imagery you feature in can be removed at any point, just ask :)
