Many cultures, and religions fast or cleanse at certain periods of the year. It may be seen as something done to enhance prayer and contemplation, but it is always for wellness.

In history, all animals and humans have had periods of low food intake, usually due to low production and stores running out at the end of winter, for instance.

Today, we never stop - digesting, taking in, thinking, working, running hither and thither. So we are breaking fundamental laws - reciprocity, ebb and flow - and overwhelming our systems. Just like you need to stop the car and have the engine serviced, we need to stop and allow our digestion to rest.

When we pause or give digestion a rest, we can then process the accumulated waste in our body. Whether this be emotional overload, parasites, bacteria, fat or other toxins, we can't deal with those things while we're in full GO mode.
