Craig Gordon will discuss weather and snow events that keep the snowpack teetering on the edge, like a live Rolling Stones concert with a list of unannounced guest musicians, along with what’s needed to smooth out the edginess and turn the corner towards stability… more in line with your favorite Yacht Rock radio station.
Cookies and coffee will be available during the event.
While attendance is free, we encourage donations to support ongoing efforts to protect Alta and preserve its beauty for generations to come. A suggested donation of $5 per person helps continue this important work. All proceeds will go to contribute to Friends of Alta and Canyon Guard.
Meet the Speaker:
Craig Gordon
You may already know him by his bun, his charisma, or from his stand out legacy: Craig Gordon is a world renowned avalanche forecaster and educator, widely recognized as the face of avalanche and backcountry safety in the state of Utah. Craig Moved to Utah in 1984 where he found work as a ski patroller for Brighton Ski Resort. During his 10 years on patrol, he became the first designated avalanche forecaster for the resort. Since, Craig has spent over 25 years as an avalanche forecaster for the Utah Avalanche Center, retiring this past season, in the spring of 2026. Leaning into a formidable history of historic and institutional knowledge, Craig's fiery enthusiasm and willingness to educate make him one of the most entertaining and insightful speakers the region has to offer. Join us on October 29th to listen and learn from one of Utah’s greatest legends.

- What does my donation go to support?
Your donation directly supports the two nonprofit organizations hosting this event. While there are expenses associated with putting on the program, all proceeds beyond event costs will be shared equally between the two organizations.
Both nonprofits are dedicated to protecting the unique environment of Alta and Little Cottonwood Canyon and ensuring these remarkable landscapes can be enjoyed and appreciated by future generations.
