AVÉ - Thought is Surrounded by a Halo
Event description
Led by Artistic Director Katie Noonan, Australian Vocal Ensemble - AVÉ intertwines Australian compositions by Kats-Chernin, Whitwell, Cawrse, Twist, Green, Stanhope, O'Connor, Leek and more alongside new arrangements of music by Bach, Handel and Tomás Luis de Victoria, creating a beautiful tension between ties to more traditional European music and modern Australian classical.
Committed to telling uniquely Australian stories, AVÉ presents these new works based on the poetry of iconic QLD poets, David Malouf and Gwen Harwood.
This project marks the second song cycle commissioned by the Australian Vocal Ensemble as they expand their repertoire of new Australian vocal works, generating a new sound world to be discovered and shared. Joining AVÉ on stage in this performance will be the students from the Pimlico Junior Choir and Pimlico Voices as they perform a work together by Stephen Leek, set to the words of revered QLD poet David Malouf
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
This performance is presented in collaboration with Pimlico State High School
