Come Plant, Connect, and Create Change
Get your hands in the soil while making a real difference for our community and the environment! We're hosting a special ecological restoration planting day at Awa Rua Ika/Vaughan's Stream, where we'll be planting 1,800 native plants to restore this precious waterway.
Multiple Charities, One Mission
This is more than just a planting day, it's a community festival celebrating collaborative conservation! We're bringing together passionate charities working on environmental restoration, water health, and community wellbeing. Come learn about their work, and discover how you can get involved beyond the day.
Meet Our Partner Charities & Organisations
Long Bay Residents Association (LBRA): Are a volunteer based charity representing the Long Bay community.
Restore Hibiscus & Bays (RHB): Work to eradicate pests, restore and protect native habitats and improve our streams across the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board area.
Mountains to Sea: Will have an information stall at the event, sharing knowledge about stream health, water quality, and the journey water takes through our landscape.
Zero Waste: Our waste management for the day, with the opportunity to go on a litter pick.
New World Long Bay: Thank you for sponsoring our BBQ and fruit for the day!
Shore Friends: Will be our BBQ volunteers and helpers on the day!

FAQs
- What time should I arrive?
We will start the planting at 10am. We welcome you to arrive from 9:40am for registration and time to watch the planting demonstrations.
- Why plant here?
Awa Rua Ika / Vaughan's Stream is a vital waterway supporting local biodiversity in Long Bay. Our planting will:
Restore native vegetation to the stream edge and surrounding areas
Improve water quality and habitat for native fish and wildlife
Build community connection to nature
Support the vision of "Reimaging Te Oneroa a Kahu"
Thank you Auckland Council for funding our native plants!
- Do I need to bring anything?
Weather appropriate clothes (hat or rain jacket), closed-toe shoes, water, sunscreen, a clean spade (if you can), gloves and a willingness to get muddy!
There will be tools supplied for those who can't bring any & kai (food) on the BBQ!
- Can I bike or scooter?
Yes!
There is bike parking, so you can securely lock your bikes. There is also ample space to leave scooters safely near our stalls.
- Transport
Bus: You can catch the 861 bus, which will drop you off at the centre of Long Bay village, where you can walk down the hill to our location.
Driving: If you are driving, please use street parking – not the New World carpark. Auckland Transport have granted us a dispensation to exceed the 90- and 120-minute parking limits for adjacent street parking for the event.
Bikes / Scooters: There is bike parking, so you can securely lock your bikes. There is also ample space to leave scooters safely near our stalls.
