Behind the Movement

Abby Wake started this movement because she always wished she had a place to feel safe in her art as a woman in Los Angeles and is bringing it to Australia.

Abby’s vision for AWAKE is to open her own space that embodies a need for women to come together through their personal fears, insecurities, and talents, and to know they are supported within a safe place where they can share their true selves.

When artists/audience members leave AWAKE, we want them to feel warm, inspired, and awakened by the experience they have shared with other extraordinary women.

AWAKE is a personal and true passion of Abby’s. But more than that, it’s come to be the realization of her life’s purpose to contribute, mentor, and empower female artists.

HANNAKA: Hannaka is an Australian world music artist journeying with what is native, healing and life-giving, moving and powerful. Much travel, contemplation and study has crystallised in this soul the blessed wonder of existence. Hannaka shares this in soaring howls, hypnotic vocal layers and delicate instrumentation. Known for her ability to render authenticity between herself and her audiences, this is a rare bird that you have not seen the likes of before.

MOLLY APIRANA: New Zealand born Gold Coast based singer/songwriter. Her voice tells a story of strength, honesty, and pureness through her voice.

MELISSA MATISSE: Born in the warm tropical French island of Guadeloupe, by French and Brazilian Parents, Melissa shares her vibrant “métissage” (a mix cultured up bringing) through music and arts.
Her soulful heart felt music emanates love, truth, compassion and the beauty of life. Her joyful nature brings a festive celebration through her rhythmic guitar woven with her smooth, warm heart-melting melodic voice.
