    Event description

This is a course for parents who want to learn the theory and practice of Aware Parenting, whilst being nourished in a supportive community of parents. Aware Parenting is an approach to parenting which deeply values the emotional wellbeing of the child, as well as depth of connection within the family system. There are various tools and strategies which help to create this wellbeing and connection.

Aware Parenting is a paradigm shifting, life changing parenting philosophy. Marisa and Felicity are Aware Parenting instructors, and will present different parenting topics each week, and offer a sharing circle to support with personal parenting challenges. No prior knowledge of Aware Parenting is needed to attend this course.

This program will be held at the Newlands Neighbourhood House on Mondays evenings from 7-9pm.

Please note: There will be no session on Monday 6 November due to the public holiday. The free one-hour Come & Try Session will be held on Monday 2 October, and the course will begin Monday 23 October.

Felicity is a passionate mother of 2 young boys, and is an Aware Parenting Instructor. She currently lives in Warrandyte and maintains a deep love of the Merri Creek, having lived alongside it for many years. Felicity believes in a long, slow, childhood for her children, and she is very curious about how to bring soulfulness and creativity into mothering in this modern age. She has studied deeply into the Aware Parenting philosophy, as well as meditation practices and somatic therapies. Felicity loves most of all being in the garden, hands deep in soil with her boys digging and playing around her.

Marisa lives with her family in Coburg North and loves being by the creek and observing seasonal changes. She is Studio Manager at Mycelium Studios which is an interdisciplinary art and design hub. She founded the Mycelium Studios Parent Club which supports families and community building. Marisa received first class honours in philosophy at Melbourne University in 2010 and has further qualifications in Art Therapy, Psychology, Counselling and Social Work. Marisa has been facilitating groups for over 10 years and is particularly excited about bringing ritual and connection to these spaces. She has lived and worked with First Nations people in Australia’s Top End and deeply values traditional ways of life. Marisa is an accredited Aware Parenting Instructor and aligns her own parenting practices to this transformative model.
