AWG Victoria x Elbow Room Theatre Presents: The Basics of Creating Your Own Theatre

The Assembly Hall, Boyd Community Hub
Southbank VIC, Australia
Add to calendar

Description

The road to creating TV and film is long, winding, and expensive - but writing and staging your work as a theatre project can be an incredible way to take ownership of your story, work collaboratively, and actually see your writing come to life.  But how does the development process work in theatre, as opposed to the screen?  How difficult is it to stage your own productions?  And what kind of funding and support is out there?

Presented in partnership with Naarm-based independent theatre company Elbow Room, this workshop is a perfect way to learn about the differences between writing for the stage and screen, hear from writers who are working across both mediums, and get you thinking about ways to adapt your ideas for live performance....

Moderated by Marisa Nanakhorn Brown and Marcel Dorney, guests include Dani Hayek (who straddles the divide between writing for stage and screen, and whose La Mama commissioned theatre installation VACANT/ENGAGED was set entirely in a public bathroom), Fleur Murphy (who has created experiential work staged in prisons and ballrooms, and recently returned from a trip to Northern Island as part of her play Never Always Ever Once)  and Ra Chapman (previous Artist in Residence at the Malthouse theatre, creator of K-Box, White Fever)... with more to be confirmed soon!
