Tour 2 - Rutherglen Regional Produce and Wine Mecca

Take a trip down the food and wine trail towards the historic township of Rutherglen Victoria. We will stop along the way at Gooramadda Olives, an Agri-Tourism business run by Melanie and Rob, they grow and produce olives and extra virgin olive oils. The olive trees were well established over twelve years ago. They also have a variety of roses, hydrangeas, iris, orchids, proteas, a grove of caper bushes and a small citrus trees orchard which are used for their jams and marmalades. They make artisan handmade soaps, made with olive oil of course. Spend some time exploring the township of Rutherglen before heading to Moodemere Estate. A family business owned and operated by Michael and Belinda Chambers. The range of wines is made exclusively with estate grown fruit from the single vineyard, where vines have grown since 1886. Michael and Belinda work closely with their two sons. Joel is the sustainability specialist and farm manager, and Harry operates the onsite accommodation, Harry's on Moodemere. The business includes Estate grown wine production and sales, the cellar door and Lakeside Wine Bar located in the heritage homestead, onsite accommodation in the Moodemere Lake House and Harry's on Moodemere, and a 1000 acre farm producing lamb, cereal grains and hay. Lake Moodemere Estate is North East Victoria’s first Sustainably Certified vineyard and only carbon neutral business. Sustainable management practices are focused on the increase of biodiversity and insect life, the reduction of water usage and energy use, and the elimination of pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilisers. Their sustainable philosophy spans across all streams of the business including wine production, hospitality and agriculture.
