The Environmental Health Directorate is holding a three-day Aerated Wastewater Treatment System Servicing and Maintenance Course in April 2024. Competency based training covering all aspects of AWTS/ATU/STS testing, operation and maintenance based on AS1546.3 2017 On-site domestic wastewater treatment units Part 3; Secondary treatment systems and the relevant State Government regulations relating to AWTS/ATU/STS.

The course will be run by CET - Centre for Environmental Training. CET is a major provider of professional training in environmental and geotechnical subjects since 1996. CET has provided training to Western Australian professionals in the past with the last course done in 2019.

The course is designed for systems manufacturers, installers, maintenance technicians, plumbers and for Environmental Health Officers involved in approval, inspection and regulatory oversight of AWTS/ATU/STS. The course will also be of benefit to those involved in auditing and third-party inspection of AWTS/ATU/STS.

From the perspective of the maintenance technician, the course covers the treatment process, basic diagnostic wastewater tests and their interpretation, routine maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of faulty or failing systems.

From the perspective of the government authority involved in regulatory approval and ongoing operational oversight, the course covers in detail the performance requirements for AWTS/ATU/STS, inspection protocols, testing, interpretation of results, diagnosis of problems and their rectification, and reporting requirements.

Dates: Wednesday 17 to Friday19 of April 2024.

Details: The course will be held from 9.00am to 5.00pm at the Grace Vaughan House, 233 Stubbs Terrace, Shenton Park WA 6008. 

Transport: Public transport is encouraged as the venue is located only 5 min walk from the Shenton Park Train Station. There is free parking available but limited.

Course fees: $1,330 plus GST and admin cost for the first 30 participants who purchase the ticket before Friday 22 December 2023.

Notes: Another consecutive course might be offered to participants if there is enough interest. 

Please submit your payment before Friday 22 December 2023 or your place might be offered to the next in the waiting list. 

The course includes comprehensive course notes, site inspections, lunch, morning and afternoon tea and a certificate documenting competencies.
