Event description

Axe & the Ivory

Hailing from Adelaide, these four best friends would hang out every weekend even if they didn’t play music together. Axe & the Ivory are an emerging indie-folk band releasing their first single ‘Find It’ officially into the world on November 18.

Axe & The Ivory have been described as the ‘hidden gems’ of the Australian music scene. With their ‘powerhouse vocals’, ‘intricate guitar melodies’, and ‘moving lyricism’ the four-piece outfit from Adelaide have revealed themselves to be a creative force in the indie-folk-pop scene with the group pioneering an exciting future for the Australian musical landscape.

Their synergies emerged when Rosie Roberts (keys, vocals) and long-time best mate Ben Lovell (guitar, vocals) connected through early musical influences including Bonnie Raitt, Third Eye Blind, Paul Kelly, Traveling Wilburys and Paul Simon. They were then joined by Ben’s brother and poet James Lovell on drums and percussion, and the one they call ‘an enigma’ Paul Cooper on banjo, mandolin, and electric guitar.  The music that influences them now includes The Paper Kites, the Lumineers, Daughter, and Of Monsters and Men.

Axe & the Ivory will support the new release with a special launch event at Queens Theatre on Friday 28th October in Adelaide.

Myles Mayo

Following the breakup of Special Patrol Myles expanded his solo work and songwriting, capitalising on his Mushroom Publishing links with a
publishing deal in the US. His two solo albums, one self-titled and the second Myles Mayo and The Modern Heart, have continued his storytelling with loads of quirky, emotive songs that capture fleeting moments from Myles past and present and somehow they become your stories and part of  your life. His songs hit on a very real level, his observations are familiar scenes, those of personal triumph and tragedy, playing out like a video jukebox of shame or glory or both.
