According to Ayurveda, within each of us is a blueprint of perfect health. Our bodies, which are expressions of our consciousness states, innately know how to experience full vibrancy. The potential is there! However, most of the time this is not what we're experiencing. Through lack of knowledge, a culture based in ignorance, and lack of transformational practices to discover our true nature, we adopt misperceptions or faulty conclusions about ourselves and the world. This is what is referred to as 'pragyaparadha' in Sanskrit - the mistake in intellect. Adi Shankara (a master in our Vedic tradition) would describe it as the mind that perceives a dangerous snake (and therefore goes into a full fight or flight response) when really it's just a coiled up piece of rope.

The flow on effect of pragyaparadha profoundly effects our thoughts, feelings, bodies, relationships, how we see ourselves, and the world around us. It literally impacts every aspect of life. Carrying unresolved impressions (stress) from misperceptions in the past, creates greater challenge for us to move into an accurate response in the present moment. This is why, according to Ayurveda, pragyaparadha is the root cause of all disease. In order to truly heal (and awaken) on the deepest level we must correct our mistake in intellect. We must discover the truth of who we are, why we are here, and the ultimate nature of reality. This is the purpose of Ayurveda and meditation!
