Event description

An Ayurvedic lunch paid by donation to raise funds for a village primary school in Jaipur, India.

This is a community event up to 30 people. In line with the Ayurvedic principles this will be a fully vegetarian feast, offering nourishment and warm seasonal food. Vegan + GF options available.

If you are unable to attend, you can still donate. A little for us, goes a long way in India, so if you feel called to support we would be so grateful. <3

Last year all of us at the Ettalong Yoga Community raised over $2000, where toilets and classrooms were established and girls who previously couldn't afford to attend, have been able to study. We are so excited to gather in the spirit of Yoga, and share a nourishing feast with you all.

Our Story

Evelyn began her journey to Jaipur 11 years ago for Ayurvedic treatments, and her accomodation was in a homestay called 'Ikaki Niwas', meaning 'original home'. The owner (JD) of the homestay lives there with his family, who also own a village farm 30 kms away. JD decided to cultivate a sustainable farm to feed his own family and homestay guests. Other local farmers were inspired by the crops and trees growing in this very dry land. They became very interested in growing their own. JD employed the local workers using the local unused materials to build a farmhouse. As his farm grew, he employed them on the farm.

During this time, JD got to know the village elder, who had started a village school 20 years ago. JD visited this school and noticed it was mainly boys who attended. There were no girls toilets, no electronics, conditions were poor, not enough classrooms and very dry and hot.

JD then created a foundation. The foundations mission is: "to foster an equitable living environment where all vulnerable people, especially underprivileged women and children have access to education, health, sustainable livelihood opportunity and essential infrastructure services, irrespective of their economic and social status."

JD expanded his business by offering farm stay retreats in this village. To do this, he used local villagers to expand the farm, build the buildings and at the same time improve the school by building extra classrooms and a toilet block for the girls.

JD realised during Covid, he couldn't continue to do this on his own, as nobody was visiting his homestay, so his source of funding dried up.

Post Covid, Evelyn visited JD and his family. As the only guest at the homestay JD shared with Evelyn the progress of the farm and school. Evelyn and her husband Dave were inspired to support the growth of this community. In the last 2 years, they have raised enough money for the girls to have toilets, with the attendance of the school 50/50 girls and boys.

Due to no electronic devices, and the children are without job experience. This Ayurvedic lunch funding, will directly go to the school and help provide computers and facilities for these children.

Sunday 25th August - 1pm Lunch Sitting. - Please arrive 15 minutes early to settle in as we will serve at 1pm.
