Event description

M16 Artspace is pleased to announce the opening of four new exhibitions.

𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 Thursday 20 February 𝟲 – 𝟴𝗽𝗺

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟭a | Soft Edges

Shan Crosbie, Ann McMahon, and Heidi Smith

Soft Edges is an exhibition by four artist friends. They share an interest in environmental and creative sustainability. They all work in community development and for Soft Edges, they have created a community of four, exploring the overlap of their love of material experimentation, combining their focus to create a series of sculptures, textiles, drawings and installation. The artworks in this exhibition are adornments of a talking, walking process. The community of four soften the edges of seemingly impossible ideas of conservation and sustainability.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟭b | Inside Out

Manuel Pfeiffer

Manuel Pfeiffer’s exhibition Inside Out presents sculptures, drawings, and paintings that stand as authentic counterpoints to the fast-paced, time-driven rhythm of modern life. Each piece invites viewers to pause, reconnect, and reflect on their own inner worlds and values. Through his art, Manuel offers a sincere exploration of the enduring beauty found in nature and the human experience, encouraging a deeper contemplation of what truly matters in a society often consumed by fleeting trends.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟮 | Pages from a Diary of a Weatherwatcher

Di Broomhall

Coming from a childhood family strongly connected to the land, gardening, sport and fishing; rain gauges, barometers, sky gazing and weather watching are second nature to Di Broomhall. She eats her meals outside in her eucalyptus garden taking note of the weather, the light and the atmosphere.

This diary of the weather in her eucalyptus garden spans a period of 12 months from March 2023 to March 2024. The pages were set up to indicate the same place, palette, scale and proportion. Indicators of change and stability with 3 vertical lines and 3 horizontal lines against which to work were always drawn in before painting. Stable elements such as the sky, sun, tree trunks and ground were, for the most part, located in the same spot in each diary entry. With these control elements in place a diary entry was made more or less weekly, sometimes more often if there was a particularly special weather event.

Colour, light, atmosphere and sensation were prioritised in this diary.

𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘆 3 | In.Plane.Site.

Dörte Conroy

In.Plane.Site by Dörte Conroy consists of a number of small hard-edge paintings.

During the process of making these carefully planned images much experimentation takes place - trying out different shapes, colours and arrangements. Resulting is a body of work that demonstrates Conroy’s enduring interest in design and colour, informed by her decades long experience in the graphic design industry.
