Babashook - A Horror Parody
Event description
Babashook is a 25 minute short comedy film produced by Rad Bad Mad Productions and starring Jack Ritchie as the classic horror icon "The Babadook" and Shanneen Bagala as "Janet," a drag queen who takes this misunderstook monster under her wing and teaches them how to channel their trauma into art.
Inspired by the #babashook meme and that one time writer/director Jase Kovacs saw Jack Ritchie dressed as the Babadook for Halloween, the film is a loving twist on the classic Australian horror film, The Babadook (written and directed by Jennifer Kent). In the original, the Babadook is a metaphor for loss and grief - however, this parody takes the metaphor a few steps further as the Babadook unleashes their creative side and becomes a drag queen in their own right.
A positive, uplifting comedy, Babashook is the second short film from newcomers Rad Bad Mad Productions, a team of upcoming and amateur film makers headed by writer/director Jase Kovacs and producer Jolene Burr. Rad Bad Mad Productions is committed to building a community of creators who produce quality, regular short films in their hometown of Launceston, Tasmania.
