Get your notebooks ready, it’s time to go “back to school” with Hudson River Park’s River Project during engaging science workshops for adults.
During this special three-course series, you’ll dive into fascinating marine science topics that you’ve always wanted to learn more about. Join us for hands-on workshops where you can monitor oysters, check out a plankton sample under the microscope, meet local wildlife and more. Each workshop is in a unique Hudson River Park setting, including the Pier 40 Wetlab and Pier 57 Discovery Tank, which will serve as the inspiration for your exploration into local science. Course Schedule:
Thursday 8/29 |Â Oyster Field Lab
Learn more about the Park’s oyster restoration work which has installed over 35 million oysters to our local waterways, then learn how to measure and monitor the health of these mighty mollusks during this hands-on field lab.
Pier 40 Wetlab

Thursday 9/5 |Â Plankton 101
Small in size, but large in impact, these microscopic drifters support life in the Hudson River ecosystem. During this interactive workshop, you’ll have the opportunity to collect and observe a sample of River water and identify live plankton.
Pier 57 Discovery Tank

Thursday 9/12 |Â Fishy Fundamentals
The Hudson River is home to over 85 species of fish, including seahorses and striped bass. Join us in our Wetlab aquarium for a deep dive into local fish species. Meet wildlife face-to-face and learn how to identify some of our most common Hudson River residents.
