     Talk

A talk on the history of the David Jones family will be held on Sunday November 10 2024 from 2.00pm to 4.30pm at Strathfield Library.  It accompanies the exhibition that is open from 17 October to 1 December 2024 at the Ironbark Gallery, Strathfield Library & Innovation Hub.

The speaker is Cathy Jones, who is Secretary of Strathfield-Homebush District Historical Society.

The David Jones family have strong associations with the Strathfield district, dating back to the 1860s.  Members of the family have played an important role in business, architecture, medicine, education and the establishment of Strathfield Council.

David Jones is one of the world’s oldest department stores still trading under their original name.  It was founded in Sydney in 1838 by Welsh immigrant David Jones and continued to be managed by his family for over 140 years.

The talk and exhibition will take you on a journey through the history of David Jones and their stories and legacy in the Strathfield district.

This exhibition has been developed by Strathfield-Homebush District Historical Society with the support of Strathfield Council.

This event is open to all members of the public and is free. An afternoon tea will be served.

Please notify in advance if you need to cancel your attendance.  Numbers assist with catering for the event.
