Backing Onto Bush | Peregian to Noosa Heads
Event description
Backing Onto Bush workshops are a half-day session for suburban and rural residential landholders who live in bushfire prone areas to learn about fire ecology, planned burns and what keeps the bush healthy.
This interactive workshop has been designed for residents of Peregian Beach, Peregian Springs, Marcus Beach, Castaways Beach, Sunrise Beach, Sunshine Beach, Noosa Heads and surrounds.
This two-part workshop includes:
Part A - In classroom session at The J Noosa
- An in-classroom general bushfire safety and preparedness discussion.
- A bushfire and planned burn virtual demonstration using Noosa Council's SimTable.
Part B - Site visit at Girraween Nature Refuge (next to Castaways Beach)
- An interactive bushwalk and talk in bushland that is scheduled for a planned burn this season. Attendees to drive themselves from The J to Castaways Beach, exact location to be provided on the day.
Walk away from the workshop with the ability to:
- Identify vegetation types and key habitat.
- Understand fire ecology, fuel loads and fire behaviour.
- Recognise fire history.
- Understand why and how Noosa Council and Queensland Parks & Wildlife undertake planned burns.
- Know how to plan for bushfire season and what to do in an emergency.
Please come prepared for the bushwalk and talk! Make sure you have:
- Closed in shoes.
- Long pants, long sleeves.
- Reusable water bottle.
- Hat.
- Sunscreen.
- Rain jacket (if necessary).
Catering and supporting material will be provided for all participants.
