Backyard Bands

Join us in supporting the Sikanajena Early Learning Centre, a heartfelt initiative in south-western Zimbabwe led by Murisi Mtsvanga-Moyo, a dedicated Canberra local with deep roots in the very village where this promising school is situated.

This project began with a dream to uplift the village community, and has already made strides since work commenced in June 2022. Currently, the school has sanitation facilities, but stands as an unsealed shell, lacking window panes, flooring and furniture. Planks and bricks serve as makeshift chairs, desks and even beds for the young students’ nap-times. Despite these humble beginnings, 25 eager children have enrolled, eager to learn and grow.

Progress has been slow, as Murisi has been single-handedly financing the project. Now, we are thrilled to introduce “Backyard Bands”, a fundraising effort featuring two local bands, Love Maps and Corduroy Company, dedicated to equipping the Sikanajena Early Learning Centre with the desks and chairs the students urgently need.

Your donation will ensure that the children in Murisi’s village have a proper place to learn, read and write, fostering a brighter future for them and their community.
