You're invited to a Backyard Bash of indie rock, reggae and folk for Jemzel and Jarrod's Birthday Bonanza.
On Saturday 24th October, indie sensation Jemzel will be headlining a joint birthday gig for herself and her industry mate Jarrod Tutbury from 3:30pm.
Jarrod has hunted down a secret industrial location in Noosaville and assembled a lineup of local legends with impeccable original music.
Sunshine Coast powerhouses The Phosphenes, The Noggins, Karma Police, Noah Franzmann and Matilda Malone will all jam out alongside Jemzel for a night of absolute vibes.
If you're wondering where the real grassroots of the Sunshine Coast music scene is at, you'll find it here. With such a diverse mix of high energy rock and mellow grooves, you'll be serenaded through golden hour and dragged to the dance floor after dark.
Only ticket holders will find out the location of the Backyard Bash, and buying a ticket goes straight towards supporting the bands performing.
It's all ages (with under 16s needing parental supervision) and BYO food and drink and blankets!
This event is part of Jarrod's series of Backyard Bash gigs, intimate grassroots events run by musicians for musicians with whatever resources they can scrape together. Aimed to address the lack of scaled opportunities for emerging bands, the end result is a meeting of community and local original music in your own backyard with all profits going straight back to the bands.

Jemzel
Jemzel is an independent artist and producer making music in a bedroom. Her confessional writing style is fused with a plethora of sonic influences - from rock to folk to soul - to craft her unique sound. Without a label, manager or booking agent, Jemzel has amassed over 1,500,000 streams across major streaming platforms. Jemzel has also grown her presence in the local live music scene with her dynamic and electrifying performances. She's supported artists including Hockey Dad, South Summit, Old Mervs, Ixaras, and gordon’s grandson. Whether on stage or in her bedroom studio, Jemzel continues to prove herself as an independent artist.
The Noggins
The Noggins are a young indie-reggae trio from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. Blending reggae grooves, indie rock energy, and coastal vibes, they deliver feel-good original music and high-energy live performances that keep audiences coming back for more.
The Phosphenes
Born from the suburban sprawl of Caboolture and raised on a steady diet of 90’s pop culture and grunge music are The Phosphenes. Looking for a release of teenage angst and hormones, The Phosphenes formed in 2022 as 14 and 16 year olds in high school and have quickly carved out their place in the South East Queensland music scene. Whether it’s dive bars, backyard parties, festivals or skate parks, The Phosphenes are sure to make heads bang and hips move wherever they go. With supports for Jebediah, Daily J, Great Gable, Frenzal Rhomb, Screaming Jets, Bodyjar, Radium Dolls and End Of Fashion under their belts, and slots at Where We Belong Festival, The Big Weekend, and The Prince Summer Series they’ve begun to show they have what it takes to conquer the bigger stages. With their tight riffs, fuzzed-out bass, tough drums, and lyrics about being young, dumb and lame, The Phosphenes blend grunge, alternative rock and power-pop that pays homage to iconic bands like Silverchair, Nirvana, You Am I and Blur.
Karma Police
Karma Police a four-piece alt-rock band with a grunge-inspired post-punk sound. They are based on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Following the release of their debut single, Getaway, in 2025, the band spent time at Airlock Studios in Brisbane in early 2026, recording their debut EP with Producer, Cody McWaters. Its two lead singles – Frog In My Throat and Withered Leaf – have quickly caught the attention of Triple J and 4ZZZ. Still in their mid-teens, echoes of early Pixies, Nirvana, Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins come together with their own distinctive voice, seeing Karma Police continue in the footsteps of Silverchair and Violent Soho before them. Karma Police are Willem Brennan – vocals, Will McWha – guitar, Madison Grose – bass, and Isaac Green – drums.
Matilda Malone
Matilda Malone is an emerging folk artist that brings together profound storytelling, timeless nature, and a quietly captivating sound. Inspired by the poetic lyricism of Joni Mitchell, Matilda’s music has in the past been compared to the softness of Phoebe Bridgers, with subtle nods to the warmth of Eva Cassidy and soulful simplicity of Norah Jones. Born and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Matilda has been surrounded by music her entire life, beginning her performing journey at the age of seven as a busker in the Original Eumundi Markets. A few years into performing, Matilda found an instinctive draw to songwriting, dabbling in the styles classic rock, and emotional piano ballads. As Matilda’s life evolved, so did her music, eventually finding her way to classic folk around two years ago which changed her life. The stylistic switch felt natural, bringing forward a new connection to her home and its landscape, which now plays a strong role in shaping her sound. Having already performed at Woodford Folk Festival in 2024, and regularly appearing across the Sunshine Coast music scene, Matilda is no stranger to the stage. But now, for the first time, she will be stepping forward as an artist in her own right — marking an exciting new chapter in a musical journey that has until now unfolded largely behind the scenes. Her debut single, “Benjamin,” is the first glimpse into this new chapter. Tender, reflective, and melancholic, Benjamin introduces Matilda to the music scene an artist seeking the beauty in honesty, and the emotional weight held within life's quieter moments. With a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, Matilda Malone is carving out her own space within the Australian folk landscape. Her music is intimate without being insular, vulnerable without losing its warmth, and rooted in the enduring tradition of a story told through song. Benjamin is just the beginning.
Noah Franzmann
At 19, Noah Franzmann is paving a way in the alternative Meanjin/Brisbane music scene through experimental production and live performances. Combining off-beat sound design timbres with the familiar harmony and cadences of R&B, Noah has landed gigs at notorious venues such as Felons Barrel Hall, Black Bear Lodge and Tomcat. With the release of his first single in over a year, “wanna get married?” on September 25th, the “4” EP era approaches, a defining project for Noah’s artistry. Noah draws inspiration from the likes of Dijon, Frank Ocean and Mk.gee, the EP aims to encapsulate an industrial soundscape with use of modular synthesis, while maintaining the raw, “live” sound present in previous releases.

- How will I find the secret location?
Ticket holders will be emailed a map to the location in Noosaville.
- Whose birthday is it?
October 24 is Jarrod's actual birthday and with Jemzel's day being earlier that month, they decided to join forces for a bigger and better gig!
Jarrod Tutbury is an events organiser, pianist, journalist and Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective committee member whose favourite thing to do is enjoy live music played by his mates.

- Is the event all ages?
Of course! Common sense prevails as always, so a responsible adult is required to accompany children under 16.
- What should I bring?
Folding chairs, picnic blankets, picnic tables, mini lights and whatever you want to eat or drink!
The floor is concrete so something soft to sit on is advisable... when you're not dancing that is!
- Is there food provided?
If 75% tickets are sold, a food truck may make an appearance!
- Are there toilets?
Yes, there will be a porta-loo onsite. People with accessibility requirements are advised it may not be suitable.
- What will get me kicked out?
Jarrod and Jemzel have a zero tolerance policy for bullying, antisocial behaviour, harassment and violence of any kind. Anyone being a knobhead at their birthday gig will be asked to leave.
Similarly, mistreating the venue is also not acceptable. Please take all your rubbish with you or place it in the bins provided.
- Is smoking permitted?
No, smoking and open flames of any kind are strictly forbidden due to the nature of the venue and potential fire risk. Please take your pollution offsite or you will be asked to leave.
- Where does the money from my ticket go?
All ticket sales will go towards paying the bands and for the gear hire!
