Class description

Explore Tarot, Oracle, and Playing Cards this October at Bad Art Club.

Enjoy an interactive and informative presentation on the history and art of cards.

We will then use special collage and mixed-media materials to create card-inspired art.

Great for newbies and oldies in Tarot, and anyone interested in learning more.

Register at bit.ly/badartclub, follow bit.ly/thebadnewsletter for more.

Bad Art Club is a monthly meetup for new artists, non-artists, and creatives to make art in a low-stakes environment. We focus on the process of making art and not the outcome. The only skill you need is a willingness to try.

Class Structure:

Hour 1: Warm-up mini-lesson

Hour 2: Guest artist activity

Hour 3: Guided open studio

*Bad Art Club is sponsored by Orange County Arts Commission and INKounter, a program of Grow Your World, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

About the Facilitator:

Shady Kimzey is a queer, non-binary artist based in North Carolina. Their work often depicts themes of intuition, symbolism, surrealism, society, and the natural world, while drawing inspiration from pop culture and the future. Through diverse mediums and vibrant colors, they create symbolic imagery that engages viewers and invites reflection

Art is their healing practice, contributing to their mental well-being. Through their classes, they guide new artists and beginners in creative methods including collage, drawing, painting, and writing. Shady's aim is to foster artistic self-expression.

Shady enjoys thinking about pop culture and the future, and working with surrealism, absurdism, abstract art, and art that deals with culture and society. Making art is a healing practice that contributes to their mental health. They have taught at Raleigh’s Artspace, Carrboro’s ArtsCenter, Hillsborough’s Eno Arts Mill, Chapel Hill's Seymour Center, and Atlanta’s WonderRoot. They have worked with The City of Raleigh, Duke Univeristy, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Orange County Arts Commission, among others.
