Bangalow Box / Basket Weaving with Zimmi Forest

This workshop is designed for both adults and children. There are just a couple of steps needed to transform the Bangalow palm sheath into a totally unique basket. The texture, the colour and the shapes of this material will delight you.

This container pays respect to the indigenous water carrying baskets of the east coast.

With over 25 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.

Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each students individual way of learning.  Zimmi will breakdown each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the the basket. Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.

All materials and equipment will be supplied….what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy to find materials.
