    Event description

Your uni friend’s favourite band from checks notes 2017 is back for one night only.

After some busy years playing every venue in Brisbane, Banter Club stepped offstage in 2017 without a proper goodbye. With infectious melodies and dynamic arrangements, their unique brand of indie pop-rock evokes a late-00’s nostalgia that only Banter Club, Paramore, The Killers, and surely others, could provide.

Fast-forward six years and the cost of living has finally depleted Banter Club’s streaming royalties, forcing Emily and Adam to build new lives in different cities. This revelation lit a fire under their butts, prompting them to rise like a phoenix and burn out in a final and fiery demise.

Old friends and DIY rockers Common Deers will be serving up their famous blend of alt rock and indie grunge. Punchy yet dynamic, it’s difficult to ignore their intricate arrangements and collective musicianship while watching their live show. Their latest self-produced EP showcases a spread of dynamics and rhythms overlayed with airy and gritty vocal lines. Come prepared with “At My Side” stuck in your head, get blown away from seeing “Ghost” live, then wish the boys goodnight as they go to bed so they can keep it up for another ten years.

There will be old songs, there will be familiar faces. Maybe even another band. There will be great banter, but not on stage.

Treat yourself to a night out at It’s Still A Secret in South Brisbane on the first Sunday of 2024.

    Tickets $15 + BF / $20 on the door.
