Banyule's Urban Food Strategy - Community Co-design workshop
Event description
Banyule City Council, in partnership with Sustain the Australian Food Network, is developing an Urban Food Strategy. We are looking for people who live, work and study in the City of Banyule to participate in a Community Co-design workshop to help shape Banyuleâs first Urban Food Strategy. We acknowledge that the community holds great knowledge about the local food system and a passion for vibrant, healthy, equitable and sustainable food futures and we enlist your help in developing a shared vision for Banyuleâs food system and identifying pathways to realise this vision.
Over the past three months, Sustain: The Australian Food Network has been engaging with Banyule residents, businesses and community groups to understand what the community needs out of Banyuleâs food system. At this co-design workshop, we will share a summary of the findings from our research into Banyuleâs urban food system and engagements with various communities, collectively develop a shared vision for Banyuleâs urban food system and identify key drivers for local food system change.
The aims of this workshop are to work together to:
- Develop a shared vision for a healthy, equitable and sustainable food system for all residents of Banyule;
- Explore the drivers of food system change and identify key goals that will enable the realisation of the shared vision; and
- Brainstorm key indicators by which progress towards the achievement of the goals can be monitored and evaluated

Banyuleâs Urban Food Strategy
Banyule City Council, in partnership with Sustain the Australian Food Network, is developing an Urban Food Strategy. The goals of the Strategy are to create, enhance, and celebrate Banyuleâs Food system, and ensure that everyone in Banyule has access to healthy, nutritious, and sustainable food. From October to December 2022, Sustain is holding a number of community engagement events, including focus groups and interviews with food system stakeholders, community pop-ups and Kitchen Table Conversations hosted by Banyule residents. This community workshop will be one of the final community engagement activities before the strategy is drafted based on the findings from all the stakeholder engagement events and desktop research into Banyuleâs urban food system.
