Barrett House Studios November Opening
Description
still life
still life explores the rituals, remnants and keepsakes that trace the beauty and mundanity of our existence. From afternoon light falling across a crocheted doily to a wire coat hanger left on the back of a door, the exhibition considers the objects we accumulate and the subtle presence of mortality within the everyday.
Jess Curran’s bead-adorned, flesh-like forms explore hyperconsumption, body image and self-care through slow, labour-intensive craft. Maya reworks her digital image archives through analogue processes, drawing on the tropes of suburbia to transform domestic objects and everyday patterns into new monuments. Carla sculpts commemorative ornaments that reimagine death-care and memorialisation, exploring how we hold space for grief and honour those who have passed.
Together, the artists weave fragments of identity and lived experience into an ode to memory, impermanence and the heirlooms we leave behind.
