Basic Mending Workshop with Hoop Hoop Hooray
Event description
This workshop is open to all, whether you're new to stitching or looking to expand your existing skills. In this interactive session, we'll focus on appliqué and embroidery techniques, with an emphasis on repair and mending.
We'll start by examining examples of visible mending and discussing various techniques and terminology. Elise, from Hoop Hoop Hooray, will then demonstrate the Japanese embroidery method, Sashiko, and guide participants through skill-building exercises. Following the demonstration, participants will have the chance to discuss mending ideas individually and work on repairing or embellishing their own garments.
Circular Styling is a collaborative project between the Town of East Fremantle, the City of Fremantle, and the City of Melville to help people reduce the impact of textile waste. The project involves a series of clothing swaps with a sustainable stylist, and workshops to upskill and educate participants.
