Event description

Sustainable basket making workshop

Basket making is one of the most ancient practical arts which has been practiced in every culture throughout the world.

In this workshop we will use a variety of plants that are abundantly available and can easily be forage. They will include native grasses such as lomandra longfolia and bullrush. These plants are hardy, and grow in a variety of different climates around Australia. We will also use dracina which although not native is a common plant and readily available in suburban Australia.

In this workshop you will learn how to harvest sustainably, process and prepare the leaves for basket making with the use of minimum tools. You will develop basket making techniques that will give you the skills to create your own beautiful baskets.

This workshop is suitable for beginners through to intermediate basket makers. Join us at Art Studio Nine for a fun and creative day while learning new skills.

All materials will be supplied.
