ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Tania Beattie has explored her passion for ‘making’ through a variety of mediums over the years – baking, drawing, printmaking, ceramics and painting.  Something deeper took hold when she learnt the art of weaving and basket-making from attending workshops with the wonderful Gwen Egg and New Zealand flax fibre artists. After 20 years its still hard to resist the making of another basket or freeform vessel, anywhere, anytime!  Tania has learned that with just a few materials and some basic skills weaving will prove time and gain that it's hard to put this passion down.

Making, baking and creating has defined Vikki Sandford's work and life.  Following her arrival to the Apple Isle in the early 80's to the call of a wild river, plus two children woven into her fortunate adult life in Tasmania, Vikki's entry into the world of basketry soon followed with the help of Flora Fox and Gwen Egg.  With the basics learnt, Vikki's journey and expression with basketry, weaving materials from gardens, forests and waste into functional sculptural forms was unleashed!
