Bastille Day Dinner 2024
Book now for a wonderful Bastille Day Dinner at University House on 12 July 2024. Enjoy our fabulous menu with a French flair curated by Executive Chef Stevie Carew, be serenaded by our University House choristers and entertained by our roving accordionist as you dine. Special guest historian Dr Matthew Champion will speak on "Revolutionising Time in the Wake of 1789".
Dr Matthew S. Champion is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Historical & Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne, where he lectures on the history of the French Revolution.  His work on the history of time includes The Fullness of Time: Temporalities of the Fifteenth-Century Low Countries (University of Chicago Press, 2017), winner of the 2018 Gladstone Prize of the Royal Historical Society. Dr Champion returned to Australia in 2020 following posts in Cambridge and London to take up an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award ‘The Sounds of Time’. This talk investigates the ways that time changed in the years following 1789. If there was a 'Revolution in Time' what was that revolution and what does it mean for us today?
