Bat Box Building Workshop
Event description
Did you know there are Microbats in Mary Crescent Reserve?
Microbats are essential for maintaining healthy ecosystems as many eat huge amounts of insects including pests. In fact microbats can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes an hour!

Many microbat species are hollow dependent which means they live during the daylight hours inside the hollows of trees or branches. Competition from birds, possums and bees along with the clearing of many old trees and loss of habitat means that microbats have fewer places to roost.Â
To support our local microbat population we have teamed up with Know Your Patch to build some Bat Boxes to be installed in Mary Crescent Reserve.Â
Come along to find out what you can do to protect microbats, how to build a Bat Box and help build the Bat Boxes for the reserve!
