Join expert Joe Tonga for an exciting evening at EcoHub! Kick off the night with an engaging talk on the fascinating nocturnal world, followed by a guided night walk through Piney Lakes Reserve. Discover the incredible creatures that come alive after dark, including microbats and other nocturnal animals. Learn about the importance of these animals and the vibrant ecosystems that thrive at night.

Bats, often threatened by habitat loss, play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of nature. While you explore, you’ll also spot other intriguing creatures like birds, frogs, insects, and spiders. This event offers a unique chance for adults to connect with nature, understand the environment, and discover how we can help protect these vital species.

Requirements

Wearing enclosed shoes, long pants and long sleeves is recommended. Please bring weather appropriate clothing, a torch and mosquito repellent.

Type of event and expectations

Outdoor event - This event features a guided outdoor walk focused on observing live animals in their natural habitat. Participants are expected to follow the program facilitator's instructions and show respect throughout the experience. Due to the nature of the event, there will be moments where silence is required.

Accessibility

Walking ~1km, some uneven pathways.

Accessible parking is available at front of EcoHub, rooms are located on multiple levels via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue. For specific access requirements please feel free to call or email EcoHub at (08)9364 0191 or ecohub@melville.wa.gov.au

Directions to EcoHub
Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near EcoHub and services multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.
