Bat Walk at the Bailey Homestead
Description
Ready to get a little batty this Halloween? As twilight settles over Bailey Homestead, join SCCF wildlife biologist Mike Mills for an evening exploring the fascinating world of Southwest Florida’s bats! Learn about local bat species, the important role they play in our ecosystem, and how scientists use acoustic monitoring to identify bats by their calls and better understand their populations.
Keep your eyes on the bat house as we watch for possible emergences and see who comes fluttering out for the night shift! We’ll uncover the science behind these often-misunderstood creatures and discover why they’re far more treat than trick.
We’re also hoping to grow this into a community science project! If you’re interested in helping SCCF collect acoustic monitoring data and learn more about our local bat populations, reach out to find out how you can get involved.
Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, closed-toe shoes, and bug spray are highly recommended to keep the creepy-crawlies at bay. Flashlights will be provided to light the way.
