Batik for Beginners with Robyn
Description
Batik is a traditional textile art from Malaysia and Indonesia, where liquid wax is drawn or written onto fabric and dyed in layers. The name derives from the Javanese words, amba (to write) and titik (dot)
In this class, you'll learn a brief history of batik and then design and dye your own batik piece. You'll also learn how to continue with this art form using materials found at home.
This class is beginner friendly! No experience required.
What will we cover?
In this hands-on class, you will learn:
Traditional designs and styles
About traditional techniques and tools
To create your own designs and apply them onto fabric using household materials
Dye your Batik fabric design
We'll provide a bag to take your batik home in, as it may still be wet.

Who will be teaching?
Robyn Bunting (she/her) is a reuse, repurpose and remake enthusiast who was the owner of the studio and business ‘Harold and Maude‘ on level 2 of the Nicholas Building, that focused on recycling, repurposing and remaking.
She has spent 35 years working in theatre, film and television industry making all sorts of things - costumes and props and whatever you can imagine! - using sewing and craft technique of all types.
