Event description

Batlow Bush BioBlitz – 1 & 2 November 2025

Join us for the first-ever Batlow Bush BioBlitz, a weekend of wild discovery in Batlow’s beautiful bushland!

Over two days, nature lovers, families and curious locals will team up with scientists and Landcare members to explore, identify and celebrate the amazing plants and animals that call our patch home.

From frogs croaking in Reedy Creek to birds soaring above Weemala Lookout, each activity will open your eyes to the biodiversity thriving right here in Batlow. Whether you’re keen to learn new skills, take part in citizen science, or simply enjoy a bush adventure, there’s something for everyone.

Event Sessions

On the Bush Lookout
A 2-hour Bioblitz at Weemala Lookout. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the base of the lookout with Bindi and Leigh as we catalogue the incredible understorey plants and talk all things native bush.

Saturday 1 November, 2–4pm
Meet at the base of the Lookout on Cherry Street – please park safely.

What Went Bump in the Night
A 2-hour spotlighting Bioblitz at Weemala Lookout. Spend 1.5 hours walking through the old-growth trees at dusk, led by Craig and his big red light. Discover the wonderful nocturnal creatures that call our forests home. Please note the event will be led with one spotlight so no need to bring your own, a red light will be used to make sure there is minimal impact on the wildlife.

Saturday 1 November, 7.30–9pm
Meet at the base of the Lookout on Cherry Street – please park safely.

What’s Croaking in the Creek
A 2-hour Bioblitz exploring the Reedy Creek bushland. Just upstream from the old Batlow pool lies a pocket of diverse native vegetation teeming with fascinating flora and fauna. Join Bindi and Leigh for an easy-paced exploration to uncover the hidden life thriving in this special patch of bush.

Sunday 2 November, 2–4pm
Meet at the base of the Lookout on Cherry Street – please park safely.

All activities are limited to 20 participants. Remember to be sun and mozzie safe, and wear sturdy footwear. Tracks are off-road but reasonably easy to navigate. Bring some water and if you don't think you can last that long bring a snack.

The first ever Batlow Bush BioBlitz is a partnership between Riverina Highlands Landcare Network and Do it for Batlow with support from Murrumbidgee Landcare and the Landcare enabling program.
