August Night Walk, Bat & Scorpion Observation @ Mystery Ranch
Event description
Join biologist and scorpion expert Dr. Michael Webber and biologist Jeff Hill for an evening at the Mystery Ranch Research Station. Enjoy refreshments while gazing at the summer sunset, get a quick tour of Mystery Ranch, and learn about the secret lives of scorpions, bats and other night creatures. Then follow Dr. Webber out for a night trail walk with blacklights to observe desert scorpions in the environment. Biologist Jeff Hill will be bringing a bat monitor to observe bats at the Mystery Ranch pond.
Attendees must RSVP and will meet at Grandpas Road and Hwy 95 promptly at 7pm. The research station is not accessible except by escort to and from the property. Bring a water bottle and closed-toed, sturdy walking shoes. Participants will be asked to sign a volunteer liability waiver to participate in this activity. Handling scorpions is NOT required, but we do acknowledge the presence of other inherent desert dangers, like snakes, sharp plants, uneven ground, night-time visibility, and dehydration. A safety briefing will be given. No pets are allowed on site. Children 10 and older may attend and must be supervised by an adult at all times.
