Event description

Over the weekend 15-17 September 2023, the Tasmanian Division of the Air Force Association Ltd will host the national commemoration of the Battle of Britain.

This annual Commemoration honours members of the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Air Force, Allies and all Air Forces who served and gave their lives in the Battle of Britain. It acknowledges its significance as the first major military campaign fought mainly in the air and its prelude to the ongoing development of aviation technology and the genesis of air power as a critical element of contemporary Air Force capability.

We are pleased to advise the generous support and sponsorship of Rolls Royce for this year's commemoration events. Rolls Royce played a significant role during the Battle of Britain, supplying the Merlin engines for the the Hawker Hurricane, Supermarine Spitfire and de Havilland Mosquito aircraft that were all critical in the decisive Battle.

All RAAF members past and present, their partners and guests, and other interested parties, are warmly invited to attend one or more events that will be held in and around Hobart, including:

  • Friday 15 September - Informal ‘Welcome’ Function
  • Saturday 16 September - Commemorative Service at St David's Cathedral
  • Saturday 16 September - Formal Dining-In-Night
  • Sunday 17 September - Wreath Laying Service at Hobart Cenotaph
  • Sunday 17 September - Informal BBQ Lunch

Events are free, with the exception of the Dining-In-Night and an optional limited chartered bus service, both of which attract a cost and small booking fee.
